It is believed that Indian society has always been patriarchal in nature and hence women have been deprived of several rights since ancient times. However, with passing time, many beliefs are changing in this modern era.

It is not so easy to change the mindset of people in very less time, especially of uneducated people. But it can be quite easy by educating girl childs and this can only be possible through collective efforts of citizens and government support.

The Indian government has launched Beti Bachao Beti Padhao to promote education of girl childs in our country. Similarly state governments are also making efforts for the same. One of the best efforts is made by the government of Bihar.

The Bihar government has launched Kanya Utthan Yojna according to which girls will get more than INR 90K in between the time interval of  their birth to the completion of their graduation. This initiative was launched in 2019 and till then some changes have been made to this.

Financial problems are the most important factor in compromising the education of a girl child in poor families. Hence, these scholarships were considered as a good initiative.  

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a domicile of Bihar.
  • Must be unmarried.
  • She shouldn’t have more than one sister applying for the same scholarship.
  • There should be no one in the government job in  the family of the applicant.  

The main aim of Kanya Utthan Scholarship is to decrease the gap between literacy rates of males and females in BIhar. However the government also planned to decrease infant mortality rate and reduce suicides of girls due to dowry and other reasons.

There was a very famous quote by an American writer Clare Boothe Luce that “ A woman's best protection is a little money of her own.”  This scholarship gives girls power in the form of money which they can use according to their choice.

For girls in schools, complete processes for these scholarships are done through the schools and for girls before that there are Aganwadis through which allowances are provided to their parents.

But after class 12th, girl students have to apply online to get this scholarship.

  7. Previous class mark-sheet

It is advised to prepare all documents carefully before going for registration as some documents need verification for government authorities which may take some time. Also it is suggested to provide their own email id and active mobile no even if applying from any cyber cafe as applicants will get updates there.

There process is very simple and student friendly as applicants have to start by

  • Registering themselves on the medhasoft portal according to their categories.
  • In this process they need to enter their mobile no and email id and verify the same with OTP .
  • Thereafter they have to upload all required documents and their details.
  • Finally they have to submit after filling all the details correctly.

Students are advised to submit all details carefully as these can’t be changed further. Applicants would be asked to enter the captcha code multiple times during application. They just have to enter the text written in irregular font or style above the box given to fill the code.

Can I apply If I passed some years back ?

You can’t get your scholarships which you are expected to get before graduation however you can apply for a scholarship for graduate girls if you passed in recent years.

How will I get my money ?

Total amount for this scholarship is transferred directly in the bank account . They can check the status of their application by logging  into their account at the medhasoft portal of the Bihar government.

How much time does it take to get the complete amount of this scholarship ?

In general, it takes 2 to 3 months to complete the whole process but it may take more time in some cases . There are also some reports that some students didn’t get their amount even after one year.
